Thanks, Lavern, for reminding us of our true home and destination. You are carrying on the love and encouragement your grandmother and great aunt were known for. I’ve never heard that song, but it captures thoughts I’ve had–what will I do when I actually see Jesus and know I’m home forever?? I might fall flat on my face, overwhelmed by his mercy.

Charlotte, what a beautiful analogy. You’ve done a wonderful job in helping us to see , me anyway, to see this song in a different light. Thank you.
I can relate to the not feeling like singing part, but I still sing. Years ago when I was going through a very hard time, I was crying a lot and just felt so miserable. My mom said, “You know my dear, we are supposed to give thanks and praise in everything, even hard times. It’s a command. God tells us to do it.” I replied, “I don’t feel like singing” and she responded, “Well, He didn’t say you had to feel like it.” I still smile when I remember that. God bless. ❤

Beautiful song, and I wouldn’t have the courage to sing one part by myself, let alone all four! Well done–now that’s using technology for good!

Charlotte, what a wonderful analogy of tuning our hearts…I think it is so apt. I also love the thought that we are being taught to sing the same song that the angels sing so when we get to heaven we will be fully equipped to join in the song of praise to God. In some ways, it is wonderfully strengthening to know that none of this world’s suffering is “new” and that God has been and will always be in control, even if things are not going the way we’d like them to. Yes, Mel, life can be overwhelming and maybe God uses that to remind us where our every breath comes on. We have lived in a really “self-empowered” time for the last few decades and it’s easy to forget that our real strength comes from God. I know you have many, many things on your plate and appreciate your honesty in talking about how you have to shift your focus back to God when things get overwhelming. We all need to remember that and hopefully this hymn (and the others you suggested), along with your reflection, will encourage us to choose to look to God for strength and peace.

I think we can get so mired down in our daily struggles that it’s hard to see the big picture – or even be able to hope that there might be a bigger picture. So when confronted with struggle after struggle, it’s hard to be joyful. It’s easier to just feel exhausted and sad. We need to look up, fix our eyes on Jesus – but it can be hard.
